Programming Terminology
hypertext is text displayed on a computer display or other electronic devices with references (hyperlinks) to other text that the reader can immediately access.
This means we can read documents in a non-liner way like how books are linear. Instead, information is non-linear, and if you visualize documents being linked to each other in this non-linear way it can resemble a spider web - a web of information. One body of text relates to another which relates to many more. The "hypertext" is interactive, and the computer displays it to you in a way that allows you to interact with parts of it (the hyperlinks) to immediately view the next body of text that relates.
